2012: The Final Prophecy
Genre: Geography, Sci-Fi, Documentary
Description:
They foresaw the coming of Christianity and the Spanish Conquest of Central America. Written over 800 years ago, the Mayan prophecies predicted the First World War, the rise of Hitler, and the December 2006 tsunami that devastated South East Asia. In just a few short years, on December 21, 2012, the Mayans predict that a natural disaster of untold proportions will destroy the earth and wipe out all mankind. As December 21, 2012 approaches, the Mayan prophecies are gaining world-wide attention. In November 2009, Roland Emmerich's new blockbuster disaster movie '2012' premieres, starring John Cusack and Amanda Peet. The film tells the story of the Mayan's prediction and how the destruction of the earth might play out. But is there any scientific validity to the Mayan prophecies or is the Maya Code nothing more than a great idea for a disaster movie? 2012 follows Princeton geologist, Dr. Adam Maloof, as he takes a modern scientific look at the ancient Mayan prophecy. Maloof travels to ancient Mayan temples in Yucatan, Mexico, through archaeological vaults in Dresden, Germany and finds himself in the Australian Outback in search of the truth. CGI animation and expert interviews with scientists in the fields of geology, anthropology and astronomy provide viewers with a dramatic scientific explanation for what may or may not happen in the year 2012.
