Brother Sam is found at his shop alive and is taken to hospital, Dexter initially suspects a member of Nick's old gang. Meanwhile Miami Metro call Professor Gellar's teachers aid for further questioning and learn of his obsession with an old cult who sought to initiate the apocalypse by performing ritualistic sacrifices as depicted in Gellar's notes. Upon the discovery of the security disk in the possession of the now deceased member of the Loco Syndicate, the police assume him to be Brother Sam's killer. Dexter however realizes the shooter was in fact Nick and this is confirmed when he retrieves a bullet from his apartment matching it against the ones found in Brother Sam. Travis begins to feel conflicted between his actions and begins to question the morality of the situation eventually releasing the woman they had held as "The Whore Of Babylon." Sometimes later Brother Sam temporarily regains consciousness and calls for Dexter where he tells him to forgive Nick and move on before passing away. Later Dexter goes to confront Nick taking him to a isolated beach with the intention to kill him; however he decides not to and begs Nick to instead turn himself in. When Nick realizes however that they do not have any evidence on him he rejoices. Dexter, angered by his arrogance holds him under the water drowning and killing him. Clapping, Brian, who is Dexter's brother (and also the Ice Truck Killer), appears behind Dexter.
